Insect Night

Last night a sound came to my ear
Creatures moving somewhere near
I lay and listened through the night
To quiet noise in dim moonlight

A spider skittered on the ceiling
Crickets chirped with utmost feeling
June bugs buzzed outside the screen
All these creatures gone unseen

Mosquitoes hummed
Mayflies fluttered
Silence broken
In a night uncluttered

I listened long to their busy song
Creatures working all night long
Building lives the insect way
Working, working on till day
